Dang it!! Well I really do have an excuse this time! I was working, and then I was in Georgia, and then I moved back to Baylor. So...yeah.
...That is me right now.
Anyway. I went to Georgia for a week to visit my birth mother, Jennifer, her husband Chet, and my sister Caiti. It was such a wonderful trip!
I flew there on Sunday, left from Dallas an hour late because the caterer didn't put ice on the plane and the luggage people forgot a cart and a half full of suitcases. Awesome. So as soon as I got there, it RAINED. It was beautiful. We ate at a fantastic family-style Italian restaurant, then went to the house.
On Tuesday, we went to an Alpine village called Helen in north Georgia, in the foothills of the Appalachians. Since my mom's name is Helen and she's German, we bought a whole bunch of gifts for her, including a soy candle that turns into lotion when it melts.
Best. Idea. Ever.
On Thursday, Jennifer took me to downtown Atlanta and we did all the touristy things, like the aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola. The aquarium had four whale sharks and several ginormous manta rays. I was in complete awe. While we were there, we had a very long conversation about such things as my birth father, what my life might have been like had I not been adopted, et cetera. After, we went to the World of Coca-Cola, which had this spectacular little tasting room in which Jennifer and I sampled some tea from China that was, like, menthol-ized. It was like it was...air-conditioned. Weirdest drink I've ever had. But it was wonderful.
On Friday, Caiti and I got our toes done together, a little sister bonding time! Yay!
Saturday, Jennifer and Chet gave me my late birthday present, which was a trip to Shakespeare Tavern on Peachtree Street to see Two Gentlemen of Verona, which I had neither seen nor read. It was absolutely fantastic. The Tavern is modeled after the Globe (minus the hole in the roof) and serves spectacular pub food.
All-in-all, wonderful trip, and I can't wait to go back.
Also, I moved back to Baylor on Friday. I missed Baylor so much. I feel so at home here. Those bells chiming the hour are just about the most beautiful sound in the world. I started classes today, and it looks like it's going to be a pretty great semester. I have Natural World, which is probably the dumbest class ever. It's science for non-science-major BIC students. It's stupid. Then I have Chapel, again, since I missed one too many my first semester. After lunch with Seth, I have World Cultures III, which looks to be really interesting, since we'll be talking about my favorite composer EVER, Beethoven! Then I have Marriage and the Family, a requirement for social work, and I'll have to blog in that class. So, I'll just be using this one! Yay!
Anyway, I'm in the middle of filling in my calendar with every assignment and test for the semester.
So...ciao!
