Religion vs. Relationship

So this YouTube video about hating religion but loving Jesus has gone viral, and I've seen multiple people posting it on Facebook.

I watched it, and I have a few comments.

First, I have a problem with his political agenda. Toward the beginning of the video, he starts talking about how "Republican" is not synonymous with "Christian." If his whole point is about loving Jesus, what do politics have anything to do with anything?

Second, I believe that religion is needed. Christ says Himself that he came not to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. I left my church at age 16 after it became too political for me to worship. Yes, it was an awful church experience, but I didn't leave church altogether. I went and found a new one. I knew even at 16 when I didn't know much of anything that I needed to be in a church family.

I needed the religion to hold me accountable to keep up the relationship.
I needed the fellowship of a community of believers to hold me accountable to keep up the relationship.

It seems that while this person is telling the church not to judge, he is in fact judging the church. Now, don't get me wrong, the church is flawed. Religion is flawed. But that's because humanity is flawed.

A friend of mine, my former resident chaplain at Brooks Residential College here at Baylor University, filmed a response much more eloquent than mine:
