So for class this week I tried a couple of different online dating
sites: eHarmony, match.com, and chemistry.com. Out of the three,
eHarmony asked for the most information and gave the most in-depth
results as far as personality analysis. Match.com and chemistry.com were
pretty superficial in my opinion -- and they didn't get my personality
right either.
If I were chronically single and were
thinking about joining an online dating site, I would probably try
eHarmony for a while, but would delete the account at some point. I just
know that the online dating thing is not for me. It's too easy for
creepy people to...be creepy. Plus, how can you really know that the
person you're "interested" in isn't a creeper? You can't.
Like
Facebook and other social networks, online dating profiles are about
creating personas. You can be as honest as you want to be...or not. You
can make up a completely different person from who you really are. It's
so easy to do this. So how do you know that your "matches" aren't doing
the same thing? You don't. It's just too dangerous.
Anyway, eHarmony was absolutely the most in-depth with
respect to my personality, values, likes/dislikes, background, and
interests. It seriously took me almost 45 minutes to complete the
questionnaire. In the end, though, it was pretty spot-on as to my
personality.
One thing that each site has in common
is, at the end, they want you to write a bit about who you are looking
for. So, I wrote something like this:
I'm looking for someone who
shares my values and has a similar faith tradition. I want him to share
my long-term life goals, as well as be supportive of my personal goals
and have personal goals for himself. I want someone who is
compassionate, affectionate, romantic, fun-loving, and able to have
serious conversations. I want someone who is sensitive to my needs while
being able to communicate his own.
And all of these things I found in this guy:
Yay
for Seth! He keeps me calm and slows me down when I'm stressing out. He
helps me have fun when I'm having a bad day. He is everything I've ever
wanted.
I love him.
