The Wilderness Must Be Explored!! Caw, Caw!! RAWRR.

Thank goodness I have TWO wonderful people in my life who were oh-so-eager to participate in my interview survey.

Subject #1: Seth. My boyfriend. A CL in Brooks Residential College from Belton, Texas. Age 20.

Subject #2: Abby. My suitemate. From near-Houston, Texas. Age 20.

I think both of these wonderful people fit Arnett's criteria for an emerging adult. Neither are completely financially settled or settled in a career at this point. While neither live with their parents, neither do they have their own official place of residence.
For both Abby and Seth, the relationship with parents has changed drastically since moving to college. For Seth, it's more of an empty-nest syndrome that his parents are displaying. His parents are figuring out the new dynamics of their own relationship, while trying to figure out how not to smother Seth and treat him like the 20-year-old he is. For Abby, her parents are having a difficult time accepting that she is no longer in high school. The relationship is moving more towards a peer relationship, but even as a junior in college, Abby and her parents still seem to be in the transitional stage of her moving on with her own life.
Both Abby and Seth plan to get married. Both want marriage after college and want to be at least somewhat settled in life before settling down with someone else.
The differences between the two are in their answers to this last question, whether or not they would marry their first serious boyfriend/girlfriend. Seth, interestingly, did not believe in "The One" before he came to college. Now, however, he believes that God does have a plan for the woman he is to marry someday. He also believes that dating is an essential part to finding that "One." Abby firmly believes that she would not let herself take that step of getting into a serious relationship unless she was sure that he was the "One." She believes that when the time comes, God will "put those desires in [her] heart."

All in all, faith seems to play a big part in both people's opinions. They are very similar in their answers and in their faith traditions. I think that both are prime examples of Arnett's emerging adults.
